Message from the Head of Sport

Mr Justin Teves |
Sport at AIS is designed to allow each student the opportunity to develop skills, fitness, correct behaviour and attitudes of fair play. The sporting program is a vital part of the learning and development process of our students. All the actions and interactions of our sport program are underpinned by the School values of excellence, diversity, learning, respect and connectedness.
The sport program provides a choice of sports, run by enthusiastic coaches, whereby participants improve their level of performance while gaining enjoyment and self satisfaction.
At AIS we play sport because we believe it teaches students many enduring lessons in life. The opportunity to play competitive sport begins in Year 3 and students are encouraged to continue through to their senior years. Through playing sport, children learn about teamwork, responsibility, commitment and understanding in an environment that fosters School spirit. The School sporting program includes representative sports, participation sports, house carnivals and regular inter-school competitions.

Students are encouraged to participate in the many varied opportunities that surround them both inside and outside the classroom. Through a program of social and cultural activities the intellectual, creative and personal talents of each individual are stimulated and nurtured.
The School offers opportunities for students to be involved in activities such as debating, public speaking, music (through the choir, music ensembles and bands), theatre, dance, computing, school magazine, ceramics, and many others.
These cocurricular activities on offer at AIS allow students to develop their creative capacities within a group of students with similar interests. The common bonds created through participation in these groups form the basis of a rich school culture and a community that celebrates diversity and excellence.
