Welcome to the Australian International School Preschool. We know that children need time to be children; they need time and space in which to grow. We want them to be confident, successful and have a sense of self and of their importance. Here, we recognise the importance of play; it is the child's way of learning and developing life skills. Play provides the opportunity for children to observe the environment first hand, be creative, develop and extend language skills, interact with others, make decisions and solve problems, develop body and spatial awareness, express feelings in a socially acceptable manner and develop a positive self-concept. We believe that each child is an individual being with unique interests, abilities and needs that distinguish that child from other children. We understand that children are intrinsically curious and motivated and we use engaging and challenging age-appropriate materials to encourage that curiosity and motivation. We also believe that both their physical and emotional health are paramount and we provide a caring, supportive and safe environment. Our programs are based on sound early childhood principles: integrating concepts of mastery and independence with research-based ideas on how children learn and develop. Our program is international, holistic and enquiry based which fits well into the International Baccalaureate program that the Primary School follows. Reggio Emilia has added an extra dimension to our classes as we reflect on the inspiration of such an approach. Our classrooms are new, purpose built and stimulating places, where materials are engaging and accessible. Our Early Childhood teachers and myself hope that you are able to be part of our AISS community, where together we will make Preschool a place where your children will develop, feel secure, enjoy success and have fun. |
