The AISS School Captains for 2010 / 2011 were formally announced today with the top jobs of School Captain going to Danilo Scodellaro and Jacyln Stewart.

Dan and Jacyln will lead a team of 12 Captains in what is the pinnacle of student leadership within the School. As School Captains they represent the whole school and are role models for its vision and values.

The annual AISS Primary and Middle / Senior Swimming Carnivals are upon us again.  This is not only a chance for our swimming stars to show us what they've got, but also a great opportunity for our whole Primary and Senior student body to get in the water and have some fun with a whole range of swimming events for all ages and abilities.

Congratulations to this group of young AISS cricketers who have enjoyed an undefeated season of cricket winning both the ACSIS International Schools Competition and most recently the Singapore Cricket Association Inter Schools Tournament for 2010.

They have defeated all other international schools in the process, and local players and teams in the SCA Tournament. Jackson Anstee received the additional honor of being named SCA Bowler of the Series.

Last Friday students from the AISS Junior and Primary schools completed a walkathon around the Singapore Zoo.  

The purpose of the walkathon was to raise money to continue the School’s sponsorship of Banjo the orang-utan. The School has been a proud supporter of the Singapore Zoo’s orang-utan program for ten years.

Fifty AISS students were invited to meet the 150 strong Australian Youth Olympic Games team last Friday.

Hosted by the Anglo Chinese School, the welcome Reception for the Australian athletes was organised by the Australian High Commission. The official welcome included the introduction of the Australian team and the banners were paraded from the sports they represented.

The topic of Myths and Legends came to life for our Year 4 cohort recently through an interactive presentation from Telstra Award-winning Aboriginal artist Wukun Wanambi.  The year group has been inquiring into different cultures, specifically looking at the different ways people express their cultural ideas, as part of their current PYP Unit of Inquiry “How we express ourselves”.

The Australian Mathematics Challenge is a prestigious competition that Extension Mathematics students in Years 7 and 8 take part in. They attempt the Junior Challenge which involves solving six problems in three weeks. These problems require the students to use various strategies and present their solutions in a clear and logical format.

AISS is pleased to announce the opening of its new state of the art Middle and Senior School Technology Centre, located on the ground floor of the main school building.  The Technology Centre, which was completed over the holidays, will allow Middle and Senior students to fully extend their studies in Technology in this dedicated area.

AISS was a mass of colours and tantalizing smells on Wednesday 16 June 2010 as students, parents and staff came together to celebrate and appreciate our School’s amazing cultural diversity with an International Food Festival and Showcase.

 

Organized by our Senior School Captains, this was the School’s 11th year of celebrations, and neither the food nor standard of performances that followed disappointed.

This year marked the 50th anniversary of the stage musical Oliver! It also marks the year the Australian International School’s Performing Arts Department took on the challenge of staging a musical with a cast and orchestra made up of talented student actors and musicians.
