AISS was a mass of colours and tantalizing smells on Wednesday 16 June 2010 as students, parents and staff came together to celebrate and appreciate our School’s amazing cultural diversity with an International Food Festival and Showcase.
Organized by our Senior School Captains, this was the School’s 11th year of celebrations, and neither the food nor standard of performances that followed disappointed. The School’s new canteen was transformed into an International Food Court with 15 stalls selling food from countries as diverse as Chile, the Netherlands, South Africa and the Philippines to name just a few, all at knock-down prices. Thanks to all parents for your cooking, baking and help manning the stalls.

With full stomachs, the whole of the Senior and Middle Schools filed into our main gym for 2 hours of astounding and entertaining performances. The standard was as high as always, and again reflected the cultural diversity within AISS; drums from Korea, dance and music from Chile, China, France, India, Indonesia, Korea, Japan as well as a traditional New Zealand Haka, a very polished Year 9 choir, an energetic display of controlled power from our Taekwondo CAA and a fabulous opening from one of our senior school bands. Our students’ hard work, many of whom took on performances from outside their own cultural heritage, paid off – the day was a fabulous celebration and display of appreciation for the cultural diversity at AISS.
