Parents' Association - Message from the President

Developing community spirit at AIS is a major objective of our Association and each year we hold a number of major events to encourage this spirit. For example, in Term 1 we hold our ever popular FISH & CHIPS NIGHT. It’s a great family night of picnicking, activities for the kids and socialising for the adults. It is always lots of fun for children and parents alike.  Welcoming new parents to our School is another important role the Parents’’ Association undertakes. Our Newcomers' Morning Teas at the start of each term are great opportunities to impart information to our new members and gives them a chance to intermingle with other new parents and meet the Class Contacts from their children’s classes.

Connecting with our student body and providing assistance and service to them sees us involved in many activities at school. Our youngest students in the Preschool are able to shop for both Mum and Dad at the MOTHER’S & FATHER’S DAY STALL held for them in their pod areas. Our SWAP SHOP (pre-loved clothes and accessories) is a great example of a “win-win” providing inexpensive, good quality goods to our members whilst raising funds to support student activities. Our involvement in various stalls to assist other student initiatives is also rewarding.

Parent concerns are another area that the Association takes up with the School when a significant proportion of our membership indicates that we need to intervene. We direct parents with individual concerns to take up these matters in the correct manner with the appropriate contact at the School.

Two Parent lounges are provided for parents on campus – one in the Primary/Senior building with another in the Pre/Junior school campus. These areas provide a relaxing space for parents to enjoy while they are at school. They are for use by all parents and are looked after by the Committee.

Additional areas looked after by our Committee is; the webpage you are now viewing; an on-line SERVICES DIRECTORY which advertises useful businesses and services; NOTICEBOARDS advertising all sorts of community information; donation of resources to school departments; managing volunteers who are Class Contacts in each class and year level; representation to the School on canteen issues; open general meetings for members and help at other events such as the International Food Fair and assorted stalls. We have a large membership ~ the parents/guardians of over 2,500 students here at AIS. Presently we have an incomplete committee (capacity 16) running activities for the Association. If any parent is interested in joining the committee or in volunteering to help us please contact us at aisspa@ais.com.sg  We are always happy to here your ideas and suggestions.
