Coaching for Character
Derived from the latest research in adolescent & sports psychology, Coaching for Character equips our community with tangible tools to build character education through sports.
Established by Clark Power, Professor of Psychology and Education at the University of Notre Dame, this program provides top flight training through high calibre, interactive clinics for coaches, parents and students, to develop the skills and the character of our athletes. This includes:
- Maximize their athlete's performance by setting targeted, appropriate goals
- Understand the critical role social relationships play in a team's success
- Instill a sense of accountability and ownership in their athletes
- Recognize and address signs of abuse
- Build strategic, beneficial relationships with parents
Results from this well established program demonstrate less athletic burn out and increased pride and satisfaction from coaches and parents.
Training Squads & Representative Teams
Representative teams offer competitive sporting opportunities, developing the values instilled in our athletes to achieve a common goal. Talent is identified at an early age through our PE curriculum and developed through a wide range of sporting opportunities.
Training squads, often the precursor to joining a representative team, offer the opportunity for all students that wish to participate in competitive sport a chance to excel and develop. We create training squads in-line with student demand, for example this season we had over 50 students try-out for our 2014/15 Netball Team, which has resulted in 5 representative teams and 1 training squads!

- Involves the athlete engaging with Sports Science theory on nutrition, psychology, injury prevention & management and training principle
- Is delivered through timetabled training sessions during school time and multiple before or after school training CCA options
ADP is a research based program that uses the Long-Term Athlete Development Model1 (popularised by Balyi and Hamilton 2004) to develop excellence and is used by elite sports schools in Australia, UK and here in Singapore, at the Singapore Sports School.
