AIS Awarded Full Accreditation by the Council of International Schools

Throughout the past 18 months the Australian International School has been involved in a reflective process of self-study with a view to achieve accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS). CIS is a membership community of 711 schools like ours in 112 countries who are all committed to high-quality international education.  These schools all share one common ideal; to provide their students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to pursue their lives as global citizens. 

To achieve membership of the CIS, a school must be able to demonstrate how it infuses its programs and offerings with international and intercultural perspectives so that its students can move forward with the attitudes and understanding that will provide them with a solid base wherever their studies or work may take them. In essence, what the CIS organisation does is provide a school like ours with an external set of rigorous checks and balances for its pursuit of excellence.

Following the past 18 months of work, of which everyone from our staff, students and parents has been involved (through feedback surveys and workshops), we are delighted to share that the CIS has awarded AIS with full accreditation to their membership. Their feedback of our curricular and extra-curricular programs, as well as our culture and community has been overwhelming positive, as you can read in the following extract from the formal accreditation notice we have recently from them.

“In reaching their decision, CIS took into account the Visiting Team’s commendations which were based on evidence of excellent and effective alignment with the standards for CIS accreditation…...Of particular note is the school’s commitment to its guiding statements which manifests itself through: the comprehensive physical resourcing of the school; the creation of stimulating learning environments; the professional commitment to curriculum planning, design, articulation and implementation; the effective use of data and reporting to support student achievement; the Cognita Asia Board, the Advisory Council and the Executive Principal and Principal who demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous improvement; the respectful interactions between staff, students, parents and visitors and the strong focus on the social and emotional wellbeing of students including the safeguarding of children and child protection.”

In these busy times, it is all too easy for us to sit back and tell ourselves we are doing an outstanding job; it is another thing entirely to be measured against many of the top international schools around the World and to be commended for reaching the very same high standards of education – academically and pastorally."
