Ms Judith Pfeffer (Director of Preschool)

BEd, DipTeach (Early Childhood),

Judith was appointed Director of Preschool at AISS in July 2008.
With over 30 years of extensive Early Childhood experiences, Judith brings to AISS teaching and management skills honed in many of Queensland’s state and private centres which offered programs for children aged 6 weeks to 7 years.

She has had a long-held interest in education in Asian countries, with tertiary studies in comparative education which included tours of many Malaysian and Singaporean schools in the 1990s.

More recently, Judith delivered lectures and workshops to visiting Japanese university students in Australia, pertaining to ‘Learning through Play’ and ‘Early Childhood Education in Australia’.  She took the opportunity to utilise her school, Holland Park Kindergarten, for some hands-on, practical experiences for the visitors, in both the Preschool, Kindergarten as well as the Pre-Prep programs that were in operation.  Holland Park Kindergarten has often been featured in the media - both in print and television - presenting aspects of its role in providing quality play-based education in the community and as a hub for interaction and dialogue between representatives of early childhood providers. The introduction of a ‘Campout’ for parents and their preschoolers marked the start of a 10-year annual tradition at Holland Park Kindergarten, led by Judith and her staff. Typical Australian activities such as camp cooking, campfire sing-a-longs, games playing and the enjoyment of nature and the outdoor environment achieved valuable family involvement.
In 2006, Judith instigated and chaired a regional network of private, government and community centres to discuss and share concerns, as well as to develop strategies for the implementation and introduction of Preparatory programs in Queensland. Judith then liaised with Queensland education representatives to develop a policy for ‘Continuity’ in the provision of early years education, achieving more flexible entry age requirements and longer hours of teacher aides allocation.

Judith has been involved in her University alumni activities to advance the dialogue about the education of young children and was able to be (as President)a  representative at the Singapore 2008 International Conference.  She intends to continue this involvement with the Singapore branch, (as vice- President) whilst at AISS.

Judith is the proud mother of three adult sons.
