AIS Renovations Year 1 & Year 2

Mr Neil Smith, Head of Elementary School, talks about the environment's role in learning and shares exciting news about the upcoming renovations to Year 1& 2 classrooms in the Elementary School Building.
I am delighted to share the news, that over the course of the coming 10 months, a total transformation will take place on Level 3 and Level 4 of the Lower Elementary School building - the spaces that support the learning of our Year 1 and Year 2 students, of the AIS Campus.

AIS has a great campus, yet we remain resolute in our desire to continuously improve our learning spaces to provide the best environment for more great learning to take place. Creating spaces that are flexible, adaptable and engaging is just one of the ways in which we are able to ensure the AIS education is future focused and purposeful.
Designing learning spaces that help to promote the acquisition and development of knowledge, skills and character traits that will support our children to take their place in the global society of tomorrow is energizing. Few would argue that ensuring spaces are flexible and adaptable is of key importance. These will be spaces that foster collaboration, innovation, creative thinking, and active learning.
There has been much positive feedback, but I have derived the greatest joy from informing the Year 1 and 2 children. They were ecstatic, enthusiastic and reflective.

Our Students were very forthcoming about what they liked about the new designs; the ‘Tinker Town’ (for projects using traditional materials) and Tech Town (for digital media, coding, robotics and electronics) spaces in addition to the art studios, were immensely popular. Linking these two areas together creates a wonderful ‘creative precinct’ on the floors.
The Students were also asked to provide further suggestions as to what they would like to see included within the new classrooms.

Once completed, the new Year 1 and Year 2 learning environments will be simply outstanding, a worthy home for our Students who have begun their learning journey in the highly lauded Early Learning Village. Once again our campus, like our learning, just gets better and better.
If you would like to know more about the conceptual design and how this supports pedagogy and student learning, we are only too happy to be of assistance.
