Head of Secondary School Fiona Johnston shares her thoughts on Leadership
Our 2018/2019 School Prefects were inducted into their leadership positions on 8th August at our Prefect Induction Assembly. This assembly holds significant value to us as a school community, as we formally appoint the students that our students and staff have chosen to lead our school.
At the Induction Assembly, I shared with the students inspiring leadership stories in which an individual’s action had a lasting impact and influence on others, influencing how people think, act and respond. Inspiring leadership comes not just from decision making and strategy. It comes from risk taking, going against the grain, often when one is driven by a higher cause, a deep care for others and/or a complete conviction that they are acting for the greater good.
Sharing stories of leadership through the lenses of compassion, level headedness, survival, inspiration, politics, camaraderie, and taking a stance, prompted our students to reflect and think about what sort of a leader, and person, they aspire to be.
I wish the incoming Prefect Team all the best for their year ahead and encourage them to be curious, not afraid to try new things, collaborate and align their passion with purpose. It is then that they can truly achieve great things. I trust they will be guided by our values - Respect, Achievement and Opportunity as they lead our magnificent school. I know that they will honor our school’s past and, in good faith, build on the future.
