AIS Secondary Students Join the First TEDxYouth Event Held on Campus

Published by Rowan Gibson

AIS Secondary Students took part in the first ever TEDxYouth event at AIS. For those not familiar with the TED:

TED is a media organisation founded in 1984 which posts talks online for free distribution, to promote the idea of spreading of ideas through succinct yet powerful talk presentations

The TEDxYouth@AIS fully embraced and celebrating the TED theme of “ideas worth spreading”.

The speakers shared passionate talks about issues ranging from the importance of “finding your tribe" to the transformation of television media.

The guest speakers were:

  • Lance Alexander, Co-host – Channel NewsAsia
  • Amba Brown, Author – Finding Your Path Books
  • Chloe Chick, Entrepreneur – Sisu Girls
  • Erika Neo, Instructor at RDA – Riding for the Disabled
  • Ian C. Woodward, Professor of Management Practice at INSEAD – the Business School for the World

They were joined by AIS' Jon Ooi and Evan Goulios our AIS students who were exceptional speakers, as was our very own AIS teacher, Ms Kath Perry and the TEDx Hosts Dylan and Amelia.

Our two student speakers, Jon and Evan, best expressed the spirit of TEDx. Their speeches on model United Nations and epiphanies, the result of many weeks of hard work and practice, was without a doubt, a highlight in the entire conference.

"TEDxYouth@AIS was truly a breathtaking experience, perfectly encapsulating why society should remain optimistic for the future." - Jon Ooi, Year 10

These types of events don’t organise themselves. So thanks to the organising committee, Senior Leadership Team, the Captains and Student Action.

The inaguaral AIS@TEDx was a huge success and we look forward to seeing more of these student-led events in the future.
