Grade 12 student, Madison Crockett’s drawing titled Entry into the Minds of the Enchanted has been nominated for ARTEXPRESS, a prestigious exhibition of outstanding artworks developed by students for the NSW Higher School Certificate examination in Visual Arts. ARTEXPRESS has grown from a small, educational exhibition of student work in the late 1950s to become a major touring exhibition.
The nomination itself is prestigious and if finally selected, Madison’s work will be shown at one of the prestigious galleries in NSW.
Madison says of her work, The concept of my work is based around the idea of expressing individuality through the natural environments that we are surrounded by. I looked to the people and close friends in my life to spark inspiration for what makes them all different and beautiful and found that in my depiction of them as individuals the artworks reflect both their natural beauty as well as the enchanting perspective to which I perceive them.
The inspiration for my work was created from the artist Marco Mazzoni, who uses colouring pencils to create abstract and subjective expressions of portraits with a particular interest in flora and fauna. In using only pencils, my drawings gain a fresh and simplistic appearance that corresponds with the themes and content of the artworks themselves. With young and beautiful girls and the surrounding wildlife coherent with each friend’s personality and lifestyle, I achieved the portrayal of a sense of enchanted minds and beauty.”
