Nick Kyrgios Meets Australian International School Sports Students At Launch Of Athlete Development Program (ADP)

Published by

During the session this morning, Kyrgios met the AIS students eligible for ADP selection to share what it means to be an elite athlete and what it takes to get to the top. A former student of the Australian Institute of Sport, Nick shared that inevitably, there are sacrifices that have to be made in order to stay at the top of the game, but one must not discount the importance of hard work and time management especially when balancing school and rigorous training schedules.

The research used to form the ADP program is used in elite sports institutions in Australia, the UK and also at the Singapore Sports School, and is structured to help nurture some of the world’s top athletes. Rolling out in January 2015, the ADP aims to develop athletic excellence through strength & conditioning, sports theory, sport fitness and skills.

ADP proponent, Mr Tim Medwin, who is also the Curriculum Teacher Leader, Health and Physical Education at the Department of Education – Tasmania, was integral to the development of the program at AIS.

“I was invited to take a class during my visit to AIS and I witnessed students of exceptional calibre. If they were indicative of the type of participants that the ADP attracts, AIS will be assured of a world class program. I congratulate the staff and administration at AIS for having the courage and vision to create a learning environment that will have wide ranging educational benefits for all involved and will foster global relationships,” he added.

Come and watch Nick compete for the DBS Singapore Slammers at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from 2 – 4 December. AIS parents are offered preferential rates for tournament tickets using the code IPTLAIS. For more information, please see or
