Students join the International Cultural Experience Day 2017

Published by Jessica Tay

International Cultural Experience (ICE) Day at AIS took place last week in a flurry of colour, eclectic performances, international cuisine, inspiring workshops and a feeling of community, all demonstrating the wonderful diversity that makes AIS so special.

International School Captains, Eva Chen and Lingzhen Sun introduced it at the Opening Ceremony:

‘Many of you may know that the term ICE stands for International Culture Experience. It is the greatest annual festival of AIS. The history of ICE began in 2002 when the awesome EAL kids founded it, as just a food festival with the name IFF (International Food Festival). Then in 2004, performances were incorporated into the festival. Following this, in 2005, workshops were introduced. By 2006, the name was changed from IFF to ICE and the event that we all know and love today was born. People bring their brilliant cultures to AIS, and present them to us in different ways. For example the food festival for Secondary School, the endless workshops and performances, and so much more!’

‘Since the original foundation of IFF, today is the 15th anniversary of ICE. This is an organically grown event that is unique to AIS. No other school does it like us. We are one, but we are many. And this is all made possible due to the tireless efforts of teachers, students and parents who came together to organise today who have volunteered to run workshop, food stalls, and help set up.'

Thanks to all of those parents, students and staff who helped to make it such a special day and to the Australian Deputy High Commissioner to Singapore (Australian High Commission, Singapore), Mr Adrian Lochrin who visited us to officially begin the celebrations.
