Australian International School in Singapore Appoints Steve Lupton as New Head of School

SINGAPORE, (13 January 2026) – The Australian International School in Singapore (AIS), an IB World School with a close-knit international community for children aged two months to 18 years, has today announced the appointment of Mr Steve Lupton as its new Head of School.

Mr Lupton has helmed senior management positions internationally. Most recently, he served nearly nine years at Repton Abu Dhabi, a leading international school for pupils aged 3 to 18. Under his leadership of Repton Abu Dhabi, part of the global Cognita school network, the school was judged Outstanding by both the British Schools Overseas (BSO) inspection and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), reflecting a strong culture of high expectations, effective leadership, and consistently high-quality teaching and learning. Prior to this, he taught at Sydney Grammar School for over 8 years.

A former Australian Institute of Sport graduate, Mr Lupton began his career as a Physical Education teacher in Australia before leading Physical Education departments in the United Kingdom. His formative experiences in high-performance sport continue to inform his approach to education, instilling a deep belief in the values of discipline, teamwork, resilience, humility, and continual improvement, qualities he believes are essential for young people to thrive both in and beyond school.

As Head of School at AIS, Mr Lupton will lead the school with a clear focus on students, relationships, and purpose. His approach centres on keeping learning at the heart of the school while creating the conditions for young people and staff to flourish.

Mr Steve Lupton, Head of School, Australian International School, said:

“Great schools are built on strong relationships and a relentless focus on learning. That means continually refining teaching practice, holding high expectations, and making sure every student feels known, supported, and challenged. At the same time, education is a deeply human endeavour. It’s about developing character, confidence, and a sense of belonging so that young people leave school ready to contribute with purpose.”

Mr Lupton’s priorities at AIS include the continued development of excellent teaching and learning, investing in teachers’ professional growth, and strengthening opportunities for learning beyond the classroom. He is particularly committed to co-curricular experiences that build resilience, teamwork, and wellbeing, alongside fostering a warm, inclusive culture where students, staff, and families feel connected and valued.

Mr Lupton succeeds Ms Karrie Dietz, who served as Head of School for 3 years.
