Boarding Program

Australian International School is pleased to offer a boarding program at ACS Oldham Hall for our students who have families that reside in another country.

The safety and wellbeing of our students is the number one priority for us at AIS. We know that our students learn and thrive in a safe and secure environment. The Boarding Program available to AIS students provides an environment that develops both social and emotional wellbeing as well as academic growth. The Boarding Program is available to students aged 12 and above. There is regular communication from the Head of Boarding and Boarding Team to the Academic and Pastoral Care Teams at AIS. The Boarding Programs focuses on 3 key areas:

Safety & Guardianship

Our Boarding Program supports physical, emotional and pastoral care. Australian International School takes the responsibility for safety and well-being of students seriously.

  • An assigned Head of Boarding and Boarding Team is responsible for the safety and wellbeing Boarding students. Guardianship duties include areas such as assisting with communication from School to Parent and Bus and Cafeteria registrations.
  • All staff within this Boarding Program have been background checked to international safeguarding standards and are CPR, first-aid and Safeguarding trained.
  • There is 24-hour staffing including on-site supervision at the Boarding House. Students access with fingerprint access and guests are required to sign in.

Academic And Wellbeing

Our Boarding Program supports academic growth. Australian International School has a strong track record of our graduating students attending universities all around the world.

  • Additional university and academic counseling is available to students boarding.
  • Additional tuition in English is available to students boarding.
  • Students boarding can study either in their rooms or in the open plan study areas.

Community And Social Bonding

AlS is known for its supportive and diverse community. Our Boarding Program is no different and offers a nurturing and fun community, offering such support services as:

  • Building community with student social evening and weekend outings.
  • Building a network with structured activities at the Boarding House.
  • Building community with free-flow activity and communal areas for students to use.

 

When residing at the Boarding House. Students will have access to:

  • Clean, safe and cozy rooms comprising of 2, 3 and 4 bedded rooms. Rooms are air-conditioned, with Wi-Fi as well as personal study desks and wardrobes.
  • Two nutritious meals a day (breakfast and dinner) are served at the Boarding House cafeteria. Lunch options are available at the School Cafeteria. During weekends, lunch will also be provided at the Boarding House.
  • Comprehensive services for boarding students including; laundry facilities, wifi, study rooms, music practice room, common rooms, gym, courtyard. The tennis court, basketball courts and swimming pool is available for use on the days that is booked.

Fees

  • Application Fee (One-time Fee): $216 (Non-refundable and Non-transferable)
  • Registration & Miscellaneous Fee (Yearly Fee): $540 (Non-refundable and Non-transferable)
  • Semester 1 Boarding Fees: $14,551.00
  • Semester 2 Boarding Fees: $14,551.00
  • Deposit for Oldham Hall: $3000*

 

* Refundable Deposit is payable to ACS Oldham Hall upon successful enrolment. A separate invoice from Oldham Hall will be sent to the parent

*Deposit is refundable by ACS Oldham Hall when the Student leaves “The Boarding House” on full compliance if the terms and conditions stipulated on the Boarding Contract

GST is subject to change following the announcement from the Singapore Government that GST is increasing to 8% effective from 1 January 2023. For payments received/invoices issued after 1 January 2023, the price is subject to 8% GST.

*This fee includes:

  1. shared air-conditioned boarder rooms;
  2. meals (breakfast and dinner daily; lunch on weekends/public holidays);
  3. laundry is up to 9 pieces per wash, total of 27 pieces per week. Laundry is open from Monday to Saturdays, (9am to 8pm)
  4. internet access,
  5. insurance,
  6. all the fixtures, fittings and household effects but does not cover any miscellaneous charges such as holiday coverage, cleaning, storage fee etc.

 

Such fees will be billed by the school depending on the requirement.

Boarding arrangement with AIS will only cover the academic days of the year. Each boarder will have to organise holiday coverage directly with the Head of Boarding. Other miscellaneous fees imposed by the Boarding House may apply. Please refer to the boarding contract for more details.

Who Is Boarding For?

Our boarding program is open to all Secondary Students from Grades 7 to 12. Boarding is compulsory for all students whose parents are not residing in Singapore.

Why Does My Child Need To Move Into The Boarding House?

We believe that your child will experience a more enriched academic life being part of our boarding program. Being in a boarding house will allow your child to develop resilience and independent living skills that are essential as they prepare for higher education. Being part of our boarding program also gives them access to a robust social and emotional support system provided by the school community.

What Makes Your Boarding Program Different From Other Boarding Facilities Available? Who Will Take Care Of My Children At The Boarding House?

Residential and boarding staff are members of our AIS school community. They are specially appointed to work closely with school faculty and counselling staff to provide your child with a high level of care in your absence.

What Do The Fees Include? Are Housekeeping Services Provided?

Boarding fees include breakfast and dinner on school days, and all 3 main meals during the weekends and Singapore public holidays. Fees also include guardianship,  air-conditioning in the bedrooms, laundry service and medical insurance. Boarders will be responsible for the cleanliness of their own living spaces.

Who Will Be Guardian To My Child?

AIS boarding staff will act as guardian to your child. They will attend parent-teacher conferences and see to your child’s needs on your behalf. Our boarding staff will work closely with academic faculty to ensure timely interventions on your child’s progress at school.

Where Is It Located In Comparison To The School?

ACS Oldham Hall is conveniently located in the central area of Singapore, with easy access to convenience stores, clinics, supermarkets and eateries nearby. It is served by buses as well as nearby MRT lines including the North-South Downtown Line and Circle Lines.

Can I Visit My Child At The Boarding House? Who Can Visit The Boarding House?

All visitors are to report to the Oldham office. Parents and visitors are not allowed to visit the child’s room. They can only visit the child at the common areas such as office or Dining Hall. All visitors are to leave by 6pm on Sundays to Thursdays and by 9pm on Fridays & Saturdays.

Can My Child Stay At Boarding Over The Term Breaks?

Boarders are allowed to stay during term break.  The Hall is open throughout the year.  Payment is direct to the school.

What Happens If My Child Is Unwell In The Middle Of The Night?

Residential staff are on-site to respond to any emergencies after lights out. If necessary, they will take your child to the nearest hospital with paediatric services where medical professionals to attend to him/her. The nearest hospitals are KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) and the Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH)

Who Will My Child Room With? If I Have More Than One Child At Your Boarding House, Can My Children Room Together?

Boarders will be roomed together with fellow AIS students. If you have children of the same gender staying at boarding, you can request that they room together.

All parents are required to fill up a questionnaire on your child’s living habits and current bedtime routines before arrival. This will allow us to best place your child with a roommate that has most similar habits to aid in their transition into boarding life.

Do The Boys And Girls Room In The Same Block?

No. Boys and girls are housed by floors and their biometrics only allow them access to their designated floor and room.

What Are Curfew Hours Like At The Boarding House?

During Term Time, curfews are as follows:

Mondays – Thursdays Fridays, Saturdays, Eve of Public Holidays Sundays Public Holiday and the next day is a school day
Term Time 7.30pm 10.30pm 7.30pm 9.30pm (Roll Call)
Term Break 10.30pm 10.30pm 10.30pm

Do My Children Have To Check-In Their Devices At Night? Do You Have A Device/Screentime Curfew?

Yes. There is a screentime curfew for all internet-enabled devices (mobile phones, tablets, laptops). A good night’s rest is important for an effective and engaged day at school.

During study time (7.30pm to 9.30pm), boarders are not to use their handphone or laptop unless for study purposes.  After lights out, no handphones or lap tops are to be used.

Will There Be Someone Who Will Supervise Their Studies At The Boarding House?

Yes. A residential staff will be present to check on them and ensure they are observing Study Time.  (But do not ensure they complete their work in timely fashion for submission the next day.)

What If My Child Needs Help With School Work While At Boarding?

If your child has work that he/she needs help with, arrangements will be made with his/her subject tutor at school for extra help during school hours.

You are also able to engage a private tutor for child while they are at boarding.

Are There Facilities For Music Learning And Practice At The Boarding House?

Music room is available for private practice sessions.  Rooms can be booked ahead of time for a 1- hour session each time.
