At the beginning of March this year, the Microsoft Asia Headquarters invited students from the Australian International School to participate in a Minecraft competition to help launch their new workspace in Singapore. We had a very excited group of Year 5 students from our coding and design CCA, who decided to come together and take up the challenge.

As part of the varied CCA program at AIS, the design and coding class had already been involved in Minecraft Education. This Microsoft competition allowed the students to put in action what they had already learnt over the past year. The students were in with a good chance to win the competition and especially wanted to see their finished floor design at the new Microsoft Headquarters.

One of the biggest hurdles the students faced was working on this project during the Circuit Breaker period – the initial plan was for students to work together as a large group of 10. The project didn’t go ahead as planned, as suddenly in line with Circuit Breaker measures students had to be split into 2 groups. These students illustrated great teamwork and resilience that despite the obstacles faced, out of all the schools that participated, AIS was the only one to see the project through to completion and did a stellar job in the process.

The students proudly presented their floor plans to the Microsoft Team and Our design has been selected to be 3D printed and displayed in the Microsoft office.
