Schools 4 Schools: Supporting Communities in Nepal

In the heart of the Australian International School community, a remarkable initiative known as “Schools 4 Schools CCA” (S4S) has been making a significant impact for the past 17 years. This endeavour was initiated to support underprivileged schools and communities situated in remote regions of Nepal and India. Last year students raised over $25,000. This year, over the October holidays, 21 Secondary School Year 11 students and 2 teachers visited Nepal to trek and engage in service projects.

The Genesis of Schools 4 Schools

Seventeen years ago, the seeds of S4S were sown, driven by the compassionate hearts of students and educators within the Australian International School community. The primary mission of S4S was clear from the outset: to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate by empowering them through education.

Immersion and Service

One of the unique aspects of the Australian International School is its commitment to creating firsthand experiences for our students. Every year, a group of dedicated students embarks on a transformative journey to Nepal. During their stay, they actively participate in various service projects that include building infrastructure, painting, and teaching. However, what sets this experience apart is the student’s wholehearted immersion in every facet of life in these remote regions.

Preparing for the Journey

Before setting off on this journey, the students prepared by raising funds that were used to support the schools and communities they visited. This proactive approach ensured that they not only brought assistance but also fostered a sense of community and solidarity.

A Heartwarming Welcome

Upon their arrival in Nepal, the students were greeted with open arms by the local communities. Warm ceremonies, heartfelt gifts, traditional games, and infectious smiles from the residents create an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie. This exchange goes beyond mere charity; it was a true cultural exchange that enriches both sides.

Exploring the Natural Beauty

Beyond their service activities, the AIS students of S4S also had the privilege of exploring the breathtaking natural landscape of Nepal. Hiking through the picturesque terrain instilled in them a deep appreciation for the beauty of the region. This firsthand connection with nature enhances their understanding of the local environment and its significance.

A big thank you!

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the students who participated in the trip. We want to express our appreciation to Nelson Chang, Emily Cheng, Ava Corser, Oscar Davies, Hannah Daly, Joa de Roo, Mackenzie Dimech, Sophie Foo, Isabelle Garatti, Hannah Higgs, Clea McHarg, Mohammad Saim Sanny Mollah, Cooper Morgan, Hayley Nash, Evan John Widagdo Ng, Shannen Olliver, Lucas Ramsay, Nao Roepke, Matilda Ryan, Lucinda Sinclair, and Annaliese Watts for your valuable contributions.
